The Ōtepoti Playwrights’ Programme is now open to three new and emerging local playwrights (18 years +) who are paired with a dramaturg to support them in the development of a playscript. We match playwrights with the best possible dramaturg available for them.
The programme is a combination of individualised support and collaborative lab sessions. Along with working with their dramaturg, playwrights will meet as a group for two sessions (Orientation and Table Read). Their third draft receives a short workshop/rehearsal with a professional director and actors, followed by a public reading.
One playwright will be selected for further development and possible production in 2020.
To apply for this programme, please fill out the online application form, and include two documents: (either Word or PDF and make sure your name is in the title of each document, e.g: “Bob Brown_ Covering Letter OTL 2019” or “Bob Brown_ Support Materials OTL 2019”):
Your covering letter should include:
– A statement about why you believe you would be a good candidate for Ōtepoti Playwrights Programme and what you hope to achieve during the programme.
– A statement about why you want to write for theatre and other plays/shows that you have seen or read that have inspired you.
– Relevant information about previous theatre and/or writing experience and a short bio. We DO NOT require a CV.
This could be a monologue or for a cast of twenty. This does not have to be from the idea you are submitting but ideally should be a script sample (i.e., not prose). 10 pages maximum.
Please submit these documents to: email@example.comK
Applications close June 7th 2019, with outcomes notified June 21st. The mentoring and development phase will then be scheduled for each individual over a 10 week period most suited to them and their dramaturg. Rehearsed public readings will take place on 2nd and 3rd of September 2019 at the New Athenaeum Theatre.
